Participation in the international training workshop on Assessing Crop Production, Nutrient Management, Climatic Risk and Environmental Sustainability with Simulation Models held during 7 - 11 April, 2014 in Dakar, Senegal offered better understanding and prospects on need for multi-disciplinary approach to assessing agricultural production under climatic risks. We were trained on the application of DSSAT, including minimum data requirements (soil, water, weather, crop management, and economics) for modeling and simulations.
Put succinctly, the course satisfied my expectations and yearnings on multi-disciplinary concept of agricultural production and sustainability analytics, including economic and environmental aspects. I hope to put the skills and tools acquired during the training to immediate implementation in my area of research and training.
Special appreciation goes to the facilitators (AGRODEP Management Team, Ismael and Alimatou), resource persons (Gerrit, Jawoo and Kwon), and fellow participants.
