Simla Tokgoz received her Ph.D. in Economics from North Carolina State University in 2003. Before she joined IFPRI in 2009, she was at the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) at Iowa State University. She has carried out research on modeling of global grain and biofuels markets, analysis of agricultural, biofuels, and trade policies, and technological change in U.S. agriculture.
She is part of Globalization and Markets research program in the Markets, Trade and Institutions Division (MTID). Specifically, she works on model library for the AGRODEP project. She is also part of the project ‘Inclusive value chains and efficient trade’ of CGIAR research program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM) program, where she focuses on measurement of distortions along agricultural value chain.
Her research focus is modeling and analysis of biofuels, energy, and agricultural markets, particularly the integration of agricultural and energy markets in developing countries. Her research interests also include determinants of private agricultural R&D spending in the United States.
