National Mandate for Official Data Publication and Dissemination on CountrySTAT Website The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) is the apex statistical body in Nigeria charged with the responsibility of coordinating the orderly implementation of all statistical activities under the National Statistical System. However, through the NSDS, Ministries Departments and Agencies are empowered to generate those data specific to their sub sector and contribute to central database being managed by the NBS.
Accordingly, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has the mandate to generate and disseminate relevant data on agriculture in Nigeria. The Ministry is composed of the Federal Departments of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Fertilizer as well as other agencies.
The Ministry in collaboration with the NBS and other stake holders whose activities are critical to the production of food and agricultural data meet under the umbrella of the Technical Working Group of the CountrySTAT to screen and harmonize agro-food data from various sources and pass them to the Statistician General of the Federation for approval before publication in the countrySTAT website. In this way, the ownership and reliability of the data are assured.
