2012 Training Course - Multi-Country, Multi-Sector General Equilibrium Analysis: MIRAGRODEP

Event Date
Location
Dakar, Senegal

General overview

The training course examines the global economy in its entirety, taking into account the interaction between all markets and income effects. It focuses on the simultaneous formation of equilibrium on all markets. In that sense, it is opposed to partial equilibrium analysis, which focuses on the clearance of the market of some specific goods independently of prices and quantities demanded and supplied in other markets.

Multi-Country, Multi-Sector General Equilibrium Models are General Equilibrium models calibrated on actual data and aimed at describing the functioning of the world economy. It is a very powerful technique which allows for the study of equilibrium and comparative statistics about how the world economy reacts to a shock, taking into account constraints on supply capacities, interdependence effects, and income effects. MIRAGRODEP is a Multi-Sector, Multi-Country Computable General Equilibrium model initially devoted to trade policy analysis and more recently applied to long-term growth and environmental issues. The training session will include: (1) a mandatory online module (estimated length of module is 19 hours) and (2) on-site activities. The online module is mandatory and should have been fully assimilated by participants before the start of on-site activities. During the first day of the on-site course, a test will be administered on all the elements related to the online training; members' successful completion of this test is critical to future participation in AGRODEP activities.  After completion of the test, on-site activities will comprise a three-day course consisting mainly of computer work. This course will not be comprehensive but should give the participants a solid basis for General Equilibrium Analysis with MIRAGRODEP.
