Moussa Macalou

Dr. Moussa Macalou holds a PhD in Applied Agricultural Economics and Policy from the University of Ghana. His area of expertise is food security and monitoring and evaluation of projects/programs.

Dr. Macalou is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Segou (Mali). Over the past ten years, his research activities have been intensively focused on assessing the impact of agricultural technology adoption on farmer welfare (yield, income, food security, etc.), development of theory of change, organizational capacity assessment, economic opportunities analysis of horticulture products (fruits et vegetables) and non-timber forest products, value chain analysis, gender inclusion and empowerment, policy advocacy, community resilience building, and capacity building of partners.

He was with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) as a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) consultant in Mali.


Dr. Macalou interned at UNU-INRA in Ghana as part of his PhD program. He served as a research assistant at IER (Institut d'Economie Rurale "Institute of Rural Economy") under the West Africa Agricultural Productivity Program (WAAPP) in Mali. Dr. Macalou also served as a Part-time senior lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Bamako (FSEG).
