The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has launched a grant aimed at African scientists with either an M.Sc. or a Ph.D. The Gates Foundation has launched a call for proposals for agricultural research with the potential to increase the sustainable productivity of smallholder farmers in developing countries. Specifically, they are looking for projects led by M.Sc. and Ph.D scientists at national agricultural research institutions and universities in sub-Saharan Africa, working in collaboration with other researchers internationally (either within Africa or beyond the continent). The pre-proposal deadline is September 30, and full proposals will be invited in December. Writing training workshops will be offered to finalists invited to submit full proposals, and selected full proposals will undergo a period of iterative proposal development and review before final awards are completed. Final awards are expected to be made in mid-2014.
