African Research Fellow - Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC)

ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT (EPD) in the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is looking for an African research fellow.

Applicants must be Africans residing on the African continent who do not possess South African citizenship or have permanent residence status in South Africa. Although the HSRC will endeavour to facilitate the process, it will be the candidate’s responsibility to secure a work permit in accordance with South African Government legislation and procedures.

Key responsibilities:

•Co-ordinating and undertaking research projects, leading to the production of scholarly outputs;
•Identifying research partners and stakeholders who can become part of EPD’s research network;
•Participating in public debates as part of disseminating project outputs;
•Formulating grant proposals for long term research projects;
•Mentoring and developing the research capacity of young South African researchers;
•Publish in refereed journals.
 

Key requirements:

•A relevant PhD in Economics or a cognate discipline;
•Experience and publications in peer-reviewed journals;
•Intellectual and personal integrity, imagination and drive;
•A strong user-orientation, based on a commitment to research that makes a difference;
•The ability and enthusiasm to engage as a team player in multidisciplinary research, to manage research teams and to mentor and train their members;
•A keenness to engage and facilitate dialogue with different sections of the South African public;
•An ability and willingness to communicate research findings in an accessible manner to the broader public through the media (radio, television).
