Global Development Awards and Medals Competition 2013-2014

The Global Development Network (GDN) is currently inviting research papers, proposals and development project proposals for the 2013-14 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition (AMC). Selected applicants will present their work at GDN’s 15th Annual Global Development Conference in Accra, Ghana, in June 2014 and will be eligible to receive grants of up to US$ 30,000.

Submission Deadline: 20 March, 2014

Main Competition Theme: Structural Transformation in Africa and Beyond (Applicable only for research proposals and research papers)

The competition accepts submissions in the following three categories:

  1. Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP)for development projects proposals being executed in the field with the ability to scale up their work through a grant.

    First Prize: US$ 30,000; Second Prize: US$ 10,000; Third Prize: US$ 5,000 

    Winners are also eligible to compete under Japan Social Development Fund for a grant of up to US$ 200,000 for their work.
      
  2. Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD)for original, policy-relevant research proposals by citizens of developing countries and transition economies.

    First Prize: US$ 30,000; Second Prize: US$ 10,000; Third Prize: US$ 5,000 
  3. Medals for Research on Development (Medals)for exceptional completed research papers by citizens of developing countries and transition economies.

    *Medal winners will receive monetary grants and all Medal finalists will also receive travel grants to the GDN Conference.

About the Competition:

The AMC is an innovative competition that recognizes excellence in policy-oriented research, supports research capacity development of researchers in developing countries and funds innovative social development projects benefiting marginalized groups in the developing world. Finalists will get an opportunity to present their work at the 15th Annual Global Development Conference and participate in a research communication workshop. An eminent jury selects winners at GDN’s Annual Global Development Conferences; an event attended by over 500 researchers and development practitioners. Travel and stay will be funded by GDN.
