The AGRODEP training course on Evaluation of Public Policies was held from July 1-3. The course was instructed by Guy Lacroix of Laval University and Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP).
The three-day training course introduced participants to recent methodological developments in the evaluation of public policies. The course began with an overview of basic econometric models and went on to cover endogeneity and selectivity issues, instrumental variables estimators, qualitative models, and bootstrapping techniques.
Thirteen AGRODEP members participated in the course: Babatunde Abidoye, Damien Agbodji, Roseline Akinlade, Temidayo Apata, Oscar Ingasia Ayuya, Miracle Benhura, Tendai Gwatidzo, Eugenie Maiga, Richard Mulwa, Job Oladeebo, Luke Olarinde, Kabir Salman, and Fatimata Dia Sow. The participants represent six countries and a wide range of experience and interests. The training course was well-received by all participants; participant feedback will be very valuable in improving future training experiences of AGRODEP members. The quotes below highlight just some of the positive feedback received from participants.
Roseline Akinlade of Lead City University had this to say about the course:
"The training course on Evaluation of Public Policies was able to broaden my knowledge on propensity score matching and difference-in-difference quasi -experimental methods. It also exposed me to how regression discontinuity can be used to address evaluation problems. I could like to thank Guy Lacroix for sacrificing his time and exposing us to the concept of public policies evaluation."
Fatimata Dia Sow of the Senegalese Agricultural Research Institute gave this feedback:
"I really appreciated this course because of the high level of instruments used. . . I enjoyed the simple techniques that are declined through Stata command and theories applied through combining DID and PSM methods."
