The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) is a household-based sample survey conducted by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). It collects quarterly data on the labour market activities of individuals aged 15 years or older who live in South Africa and are persons in the labour market, i.e., those who are employed; those who are unemployed and those who are not economically active. Data collected includes: labour market activity, labour preferences, labour market history, demographic characteristics, marital status, employment status, education, grants, and taxes. The quarterly series of the labour force surveys (LFS) was launched in 2008 based on recommendations of the International Monetary Fund. LFS conducted between 2000 and 2008 occurred every six months rather than quarterly.
