Dr. Zewdu Abro holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development from the University of Goettingen, Germany, an MA in Development Studies, and a BA in Economics from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Social Sciences and Impact Assessment Unit, International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe), based in Nairobi, Kenya. He is also a member of icipe's Insects for Food, Feed, and Other Uses (INSEFF) Program.
Dr. Abro's research interests are impact assessment of emerging innovations for sustainable agricultural development in sub-Saharan Africa. He uses econometric methods for observational data, randomized controlled trials, and partial and economy-wide modeling approaches to estimate quantities of policy interest. He actively engages in capacity building for MSc and PhD students, extension workers, and farmers.
Before joining icipe, Dr. Abro was a Junior Research Fellow at the World Bank. He has also worked for Addis Ababa University as a lecturer and for Policy Studies Institute as a Research Analyst. He has worked as a Development Cooperation and External Relations Expert at Ethiopia's Ministry of Water Resources.
