Dr. Teferi Tensay holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics, with a focus on Policy, Governance, and Institutional Economics, from the University of Hohenheim (Germany) and has a Master's degree in Globalization and Economic Development from the University of Antwerp (Belgium), MSc degree in International Economics and Bachelor in Economics, both from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia).
Dr. Tensay is a consultant at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). He specializes in quantitative and qualitative research methods, survey methodology (design, sampling, and budgeting), visualization, impact evaluation, and the econometrics of causal inference. Dr. Teferi has over 20 years of experience in evaluation and research.
He has led a range of (quasi)-experimental evaluations across Africa. Prior to his consultancy work at IFPRI, he held various positions at public, private, and civil society organizations, including Laterite as program and general manager; Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency as Director of Environmentally Sustainable and Inclusive Growth; Ministry of Planning and Development-Ethiopia, in the capacity of Director of Agriculture, Industry and Service sectors; National Bank of Ethiopia, as Senior Research Officer; and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in the capacity of Research Officer.
He has published widely through working papers, peer-reviewed journal articles, and technical reports and has presented his research findings at various international academic conferences.
