International food prices began to rise sharply in the first quarter of 2011, resulting in a second food price crisis in three years. Rising food inflation in many developing countries and increasing food price volatility have revived concerns about the long-term food security of poor people.
In this seminar, three IFPRI board members addressed what happened during the 2011 food price crisis in order to draw out lessons learned, analyze the similarities and differences between the 2011 and 2008 crises, and outline what must be done to prevent a recurrence.
In the seminar, Dr. Torero provided comments on the three seminar presentations on: "Two food price crises in three years: what's going on? what lessons have we learned?"
