The Tanzania 2010-2011 National Panel Survey (TZNPS) is supported by the Living Standards Measurement Study - Integrated Surveys on Agriculture (LSMS-ISA) project undertaken by the Development Research Group at the World Bank. The LSMS-ISA project aims to support governments in seven Sub-Saharan African countries to generate nationally representative, household panel data with a strong focus on agriculture and rural development. The surveys under the LSMS-ISA project are modeled on the multi-topic integrated household survey design of the LSMS; Household, Agriculture, and Community questionnaires are each an integral part of every survey effort. For some of the surveys that have been done over the years, panel data sets that merge the multiple years of data have been created.
The 2010/2011 Tanzania National Panel Survey (TZNPS) is the second in a series of nationally representative household panel surveys that was implemented by the Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The first round of the survey (2008/2009 TZNPS) was conducted from October 2008 to September 2009. The main fieldwork of the second round of the TZNPS started in October 2010 and completed in September 2011, with specialized tracking teams remaining in the field until November 2011. The third round of the TZNPS is scheduled to start in the fall of 2012. The 2010/2011 TZNPS consists of four survey instruments: a Household Questionnaire, Agriculture Questionnaire, Fishery Questionnaire, and a Community Questionnaire. The total sample size for the second round of the NPS has a total sample size of 3924 households. This represents 3168 round-one households, a re-interview rate of over 97 percent. In addition, of the 10,420 eligible adults (over age 15 in 2010), 9,338 were re-interviewed, a re-interview rate of approximately 90 percent.
