Kenya GET Ahead Business Training Program Impact Evaluation 2013, Baseline Survey

Short Name
KEN 2013 GABIE
The impact evaluation was designed to measure the causal impact of the International Labour Organization GET Ahead business training program on the profitability, growth and survival of female-owned businesses. The study also aims to evaluate whether any gains in profitability come at the expense of other business owners. The evaluation uses a randomized control trial methodology with a two-level randomized experiment: randomized selection of villages, and individuals within villages. The study is being conducted in four counties: Kakamega, Kisii, Embu and Kitui.

Listing of female enterprises to survey took place between June 3, 2013 and November 1, 2013. The baseline data collection was carried out soon after the listing surveys in each county, between June and November 2013. The treatment took place in 2013, within weeks of the baseline survey.

The first follow-up survey will be administered between June and December 2014, and the second follow-up round is scheduled for June and December 2015.
