The AGRODEP Management Team is pleased to announce the launch of a new IGI Global title, "Handbook of Research on In-Country Determinants and Implications of Foreign Land Acquisitions," edited by AGRODEP member Evans Osabuohien. The book also includes contributions from several other AGRODEP members, including: Elijah Abiodun Obayelu, Kassa Alemu, Ciliaka M. Gitau, and Uchenna Efobi.
The book examines the potential economic, sociological, and environmental impacts of foreign land acquisitions on local households and communities. The book focuses on both international issues and domestic concerns. It was launched at the Tropentag Conference in Berlin, Germany on September 16 during a panel on "Large Scale Land Acquisition in Sub-Saharan Africa." The event included presentations from the editor, three country cases (Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe) presented by some of the chapter contributors, commentary from the book reviewer, and a general discussion. A panel discussion involved representatives from the Nigerian Embassy to Germany and an officer from The German Agency for International Cooperation-GIZ (an arm of the German Federal Ministry Economic Cooperation and Development-BMZ), as well as memebers of academia. The session was a success, with more participants than anticipated.
