The AGRODEP training course on GAMS-Based CGE Models (Basic) was held from December 9-20. The course was instructed by Véronique Robichaud of Laval University.
The training course was intended to develop participants’ expertise in understanding and building multi-sector computable general equilibrium (CGE) models, which are used to analyze the microeconomic impact of macroeconomic shocks and policies on a national economy.
Eleven AGRODEP members participated in the course: Godwin Anjeinu Abu, Olufunke A. Alaba, Philip Alege, Gutu Boka, Blessing Chiripanhura, Hassen Hussein, J. Alexander Nuetah, Henry Okodua, Olawale Olayide, Carren Pindiriri, and Franklin Simtowe. The participants represent five countries and a wide range of experience and interests. The training course was well-received by all participants; participant feedback will be valuable in improving future training experiences of AGRODEP members. The quotes below highlight just some of the positive feedback received.
Henry Okodua of Covenant University had this to say about the course:
"This workshop was exceptionally insightful and most illuminating in every respect. The course instructor Véronique Robichaud expectedly did justice to every aspect of the curriculum as all participants were greatly imparted with right knowledge, many thanks to the extraordinary ability of Véronique to simplify and communicate potentially difficult contents with every sense of humour and humility. She ended up turning some of us who were Novices in CGE Modeling into Experts. Now we can easily undertake any research adventure involving the use of CGE models."
Godwin Anjeinu Abu of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Nigeria gave this feedback:
"It was a great experience participating in the course. Our instructor Veronique was excellent. Her pedagogical approach made the training very pleasant. I can't wait for the advanced course."
