Another Unique Opportunity: See What Participants Are Saying about the Impact Evaluation and Analysis of Development Interventions Training Course (Part II)

Susan Godlonton, AGRODEP MembersThe AGRODEP training course on Impact Evaluation and Analysis of Development Interventions (Part II) was held from December 16-20. The course was organized by Tanguy Bernard of IFPRI and instructed by Clara Delavallade and Susan Godlonton of IFPRI.

The five-day training course introduced participants to the latest developments regarding both technical and topical aspects of impact evaluation. The course also aimed to build a high-level network of local impact evaluation practitioners and partners within the region.

Ten AGRODEP members participated in the course: Adetola Adeoti, Olajide Ajao, Oluwole Akinnagbe, Omer Combary, Charles Jumbe, Oswald Koussihouede, Damien Mededji, Nancy Mwange, Abiodun Obayelu, and Denis Ouedraogo. The participants represent five countries and a wide range of experience and interests. The training course was well-received by all participants; participant feedback will be very valuable in improving future training experiences of AGRODEP members. The quotes below highlight just some of the positive feedback received from participants.

Oluwole Akinnagbe of the University of Nigeria had this to say about the course:

"The 2013 training course on Impact Evaluation and Analysis of Development Interventions part II is another opportunity for me to learn and improve my skill in analysing the impact of an intervention programme. It has come and gone but its impact will remain ever fresh in our memories. Of great importance to me is the application of the theory of what makes people act in a particular way in an economic or business situation, how to deal with attrition bias and how to measure programme impact in the presence of spillovers."

Abiodun Obayelu of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria gave this feedback:

"Every participant, as part of the training, made at least a presentation on either their proposal, completed or ongoing project related to impact evaluation and development interventions. Each member was also tasked to review at least a paper and shared their observations. Every paper was constructively criticized after presentation with useful pieces of advice made. I am happy that beyond my expectation on the course, my reviewing skill has improved."
